the Art of Posery


When we were 10 years old, the supreme experience, was to sit in dad's driving seat and grab the steering wheel. Then, he placed first gear, and we suddenly let the clutch so the wheels spin.
Spinning wheels…that scriiiitsing sound was our holy grail.

In this early version of posering (which many never truly abandoned) was enclosed the whole idea of driving.
All the stereotyped models of “knight rider “ series, and all American films, were  instilled and intergraded   through that
wheel spin.

We were holding  the steering wheel with a sense of elation. We were the ones who fantasized that we were. So what if we had no idea about the substance of driving? Who cared?
 I do not know whether to blame those years ..
We live now at times that posering replaces skill.
Demonstration replaces substance.
The value of the cover replaces the value of the content.

The damaged perception of the world is so widespread and so deep around these concepts, that many end up engaging consciously  with "posering” an art form, neglecting  its substance.

"You're what you seem to be."
 and even worse ... "
You're good at what you pretend you are, as long as you pretend well."
If you throw bottles, glasses and ice cubes in the air, you are a  good bartender. No one will bother whether you know how to prepare two decent drinks.
If you do somersaults and corny poses, you are a good martial artist.
If you do splits and difficult postures you are a yogi.

On the same time, the other side of the implication is even worst .

To be a yogi must do difficult  postures and splits.
To be a martial artists thou must do somersaults and throw ninja stars.
To be a bartender you have to throw bottles in the air .
To be a good driver you should know how to spin.

Perform, to show your art.

Adults locked into 10 year old minds.

The arts of song, music and dance are also suffering from the malady of this double implication.
The stereotypical motifs accompany every art, to the point that the apprentice is mainly interested in the superficial identification with them, despite the soaking of art itself.
 
Subjugated at the social accepted double implication of Looking-therefore-you are , is enough for us , 
as long as we are  able to impersonate the stereotype of our art.
